WHAT IS FERTICELL CALCIUM-880?
Only nitrogen and potassium are required in larger amounts by plants. Ferticell Calcium 880 is a complex of calcium carbonate and organic materials for both foliar and drip application. It contains a Natural Organic Bio-activator package consisting of unicellular algae cells extract to encourage biological activity in the plant. The algae cells act as a delivery system for the nutrients, specifically calcium, and provide the most effective assimilation of calcium into the plant. Ferticell Calcium 880 facilitates the drop dispersion/spread on the leaf surface increasing the product absorption.

Calcium plays an active role in the uptake of water and nutrients by neutralizing organic acids in the plant. Deficiencies of calcium cause well documented fruit and vegetable disorders, such as bitter pit in apples, blossom end rot in tomatoes, and soft bottom in melons. Calcium protects the plant by acting as a buffer against stress caused by soil toxicity or extremes of acidity or alkalinity.

Calcium’s ability to reduce or prevent infections come from its ability to increase the cuticular thickness and cell turgor. Plants with thicker cuticles and a higher cell turgor are less susceptible to infection and, if infected, these plants are better able to fight off infection. For continued healthy growth, a readily available supply of calcium is
essential. Calcium deficiencies are becoming more prevalent and usually show up at the time of flowering and fruiting. Ferticell Calcium 880 can help to correct these deficiencies when used as recommended. Ferticell Calcium 880 is a natural liquid product designed for use in foliar and soil applications. It is a non-phytotoxic product. Ferticell Calcium 880 is an effective dispersing agent when applied with other foliar spray chemicals and is the quickest method to increase a plants Calcium level because it delivers the nutrients directly to the affected area.

WHY USE FERTICELL CALCIUM-880?
• Can be applied through any standard irrigation system
• Economical with low application rates
• Will stay in suspension in the tank with minimal agitation
• May be mixed with herbicides
• Fast acting
• Safe and easy to handle

CALCIUM DEFICIENCIES
Calcium deficiencies are caused by an inadequate supply of calcium to the affected tissues. These deficiencies can occur even when the soil appears to have an adequate supply of calcium.

SYMPTOMS OF DEFICIENCIES
• Necrosis at the tips and margins of young leaves
• Bulb and fruit abnormalities
• Deformation of affected leaves
• Highly branched, short, brown root systems
• Severely stunted growth
• General chlorosis

FACTORS AFFECTING CALCIUM AVAILABILITY
Calcium is found in many minerals in soil, but is relatively insoluble in this state. Calcium is not considered a leachable nutrient. High levels of other cations such as magnesium, ammonium, iron, aluminum and especially potassium will reduce the calcium uptake in some crops. A common misconception is that if the pH is high, adequate calcium is present, however this is not always true.
