Ferticell Calcium 7-0-0-9 Ca is a natural calcium complex blended with a natural nitrogen compound derived from soy bean. Ferticell Calcium 7-0-0-9 Ca is a liquid that may be applied in any irrigation system. Unlike other calcium products, Ferticell Calcium is in a form completely available to the plant, and also includes our unicellular algae cells technology to ensure maximum uptake and assimilation of the nutrients inside the plant structure.
Ferticell Calcium can be used throughout the crop cycle as a sufficient source of calcium to avoid deficiencies, and can also be used to correct deficiencies with extremely efficient uptake. Combined with natural nitrogen derived from soybean Ferticell Calcium can also contribute towards savings on other nitrogenous fertilizers. It is advised to apply Ferticell Calcium from the early stages of the crop until 15 days before harvest to avoid nutrient deficiencies.
Calcium plays an active role in the uptake of water and nutrients by neutralizing organic acids in the plant. Deficiencies of calcium cause well documented fruit and vegetable disorders, such as bitter pit in apples, blossom end rot in tomatoes, and soft bottom in melons. Calcium protects the plant by acting as a buffer against stress caused be soil toxicity or extremes of acidity or alkalinity. Calcium also makes nutrients available to the plant for an increased assimilation of nutrients. Calcium’s ability to reduce or prevent infections comes from its ability to increase the cuticular thickness and cell turgor. Plants with thicker cuticles and a higher cell turgor are less susceptible to infection and, if infected, these plants are better able to fight off infection. For continued healthy growth, a readily available supply of calcium is essential. Calcium deficiencies are becoming more prevalent and usually show up at the time of flowering and fruiting.
SYMPTOMS OF DEFICIENCIES
• Necrosis at the tips and margins of young leaves
• Bulb and fruit abnormalities
• Deformation of affected leaves
• Highly branched, short, brown root systems
• Severely stunted growth
• General chlorosis
Although calcium is not considered to be toxic to plants, excess calcium levels in the soil can reduce a plant’s ability to assimilate other nutrients such as phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, boron, copper, iron, and zinc.
